The result of the visitor poll for National Love Your Zoo Week at the Lake District Wildlife Park came as a surprise to Keepers when they discovered the Reptiles slid into first place ahead of last year’s winners the Meerkats. Visitors during half term voted for their favourite species and the snakes came out on top.
Park Manager Richard Robinson said Adam Buxton our Reptile Keeper, has two encounter sessions every day giving visitors chance to get up close and meet our reptiles which include Beauty the Boa Constrictor and Urma our Burmese Python who both enjoy being stroked. It’s a great experience and something that visitors really enjoy getting involved with. Animal encounters at the park are both hands on and informative and the expert knowledge is something the Keepers really enjoys sharing. It seems Adam had been urging his spectators to vote snake!”
The newly renamed park had a busy half term holiday and despite a wet start to the week, visitor numbers were up on last year. We are now gearing up for the summer, moving animals, installing look out posts and improving their new African exhibit.
