Lake District Wildlife Parks Living Nativity

on 5th December, 2019

Christmas is brought to life again this festive season, with our Living Nativity scene, featuring some of your favourite animals including Donkeys, Sheep, Goats and Zebu.

The Living Nativity is a great opportunity for both children and adults to learn about the true meaning of the festive season, giving them the chance to interact with the animals while looking at the scenes that represent the Nativity story.

This year Dooley and Annie the Donkeys – who have had starring roles for many years – have been joined by some more of the Wildlife Park’s domestic livestock.

Dooley and Annie represent the long journey that Mary and Joseph over the hills of Galilee and into Bethlehem, with Mary riding on a Donkey. When they arrived, they were told there was “no room at the Inn” and were given a stable to sleep in along with the innkeeper’s animals. This is the scene the Wildlife Park has re-created, with Niko the Dwarf Zebu calf and the Ouessant sheep Donna and Dee Dee keeping warm in the stable.

The Nativity scene finishes with the story of the Three Wise Men, who followed the star to find baby Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. However, at the Wildlife Park the Three Wise Men are quite unique and are represented by the gregarious Anglo-Nubian Goats, Stephen, Jim and Kenneth!

So, if you want to see a Nativity scene with a difference pop down and see us. There is also plenty of indoor fun to be had in the heated barn with “Cuddle A Guinea Pig”, the Indoor Owl Display, Reptile Encounter and more.

And if you are feeling hungry, the café also serves festive home cooked food including hot turkey, cranberry and stuffing baguettes along with home-made mince pies and hot chocolate.
